How to stop Batch Optimize in Blender from creating new materials?

I’m creating LODs using batch profiles. I want the created LODs to keep the material used on the original mesh.

Thanks for the help!

Hello @Reaubocop and welcome to our community!

Could I please clarify if you are using an “Optimize” operation that strictly performs polygon optimization when batch processing to create your LODs or if you are also using the “Remesh” operation?

The reason I ask is that the Remesh operation creates a new mesh with new UV coordinates requiring new textures.

Thanks!

Hi Pixby thank you for the help. I am only doing an Optimize operation that strictly performs polygon optimization when batch processing. It seems to just created a new material slot with copies of most of the original textures, sometimes a few textures are missing.

Thanks @Reaubocop for the additional information!

I’ll pass this along internally and provide further information as soon as it’s available.

Thanks again!

Hello @Reaubocop,

Can I confirm that you have installed the latest version of InstaLOD for Blender? A new version was released in early November of 2024.

Thanks!

Hello again @Reaubocop,

The integration currently creates a new Blender material that is shared for the generated LODs in the batch. I’ll mention this internally about the LODs sharing the original material.

Thanks for bringing this up!

Thank you, I appreciate it. I can see the utility in creating the new material, but having the option to retain the original would be nice.
