Let’s Improve Localization: Russian 🇷🇺

We’re currently using AI based translation to localize MAT into different languages.
There are obvious mistakes here that are difficult for us to identify and improve on.

But we’ve heard you ⏤ the MAT community wants to help here, so I’m creating this post.

How to help with the localization?

Please respond to this topic and post a screenshot of the localization that needs to be improved and include the proper translation. It’s important to be precise here so we know what to do without speaking the language ourselves. Thus right below your screenshot provide information about Content, the Context, a Justification and a full Replacement Sentence.

GPU Verwendung für neuronale Knoten zulassen

Context
In the application settings on the “Advanced” tab there is an odd use of the word “Knoten” for a “Node”. It’s better to use the English terminology here.

Justification
The word Knoten is not really used in the German CG industry, typically we defer to English terminology, in this case “Nodes”

Replacement
GPU Verwendung für neuronale Nodes erlauben

Context

  1. Живой выход (Live Output) - In Russian, живой has the meaning “alive as a living organism”.

Replacement
In this case, it is better to use the phrase “Авто Вывод” or “Авто Экспорт”.

  1. The button doesn’t have enough space for text, it doesn’t scale by character count.

  2. Красный, Зеленый, Синий, Альфа - Red, Green, Blue, Alpha

Justification
Red, green, blue, alpha - RGBA is established terminology just like XYZW vectors.

Replacement
Leave all RGB(A) R, G, B, A without Russian translation.

Context
In “File” there is a tab “Покидать” in English “Quit”. In this case it is better to use the word “Выйти”.

Justification
The word “Покидать” has the wrong declension in this context and carries a different logical wording.

Replacement
Выйти

Context
In “Edit” there is a word “Резать”, in English “Cut”, in this case the word “Резать” is not suitable.

Justification
“Вырезать” is best, it best describes the action the function performs. “Резать” and “Вырезать” out are the same word, but have different meanings.

Replacement
“Cut” = “Вырезать”

Предпочтения

Context
In the “Edit” menu there is a tab “Preferences” in Russian “Предпочтения”. In this case it is an inappropriate word and it is better to replace it.

Justification
The word “Настройки” is better, as it describes more precisely what this function does.
The word “Preferences”, describes preferential attention, approval, respect for one of several options, a desire to choose one of several options. Example - “What genre of games do you prefer?” (Пример - “Какому жанру игр ты отдаешь предпочтение?”)

Replacement
Preferences = “Настройки”
