Can InstaMat load up a high-res geo and its textures and transfer them to low geo that has UV’s?
For example, can I bring in a scanned model that has textures and bake them to a Low-res version of the model that has UV’s on it?
I don’t mean just bringing in high geo and baking the normal, AO, albedo maps and such. Substance painter can do that but it can’t bring in a High geo with High textures on it and transfer the Albedo texture data to a low mode. That’s what I’m looking for.
Currently I use Maya “Transfer Maps” which isn’t the best quality or use Substance Designer which I don’t like to use.
Transferring textures from a high-poly model to a low-poly model is possible by baking a Transfer Map in InstaMAT Studio as well.
Use the Mesh Bake node and enable Transfer to create it. You can then use the Image Mapper node to remap the original textures to the new UV layout.
Here’s an example of this workflow in action. In addition to transferring textures, it also creates the low-poly model and unwraps the UVs. Once the graph is created, you can re-use it by changing the input mesh at the beginning, and inputting another base color texture input.
