UV unwrap workflow?

Hi!
I’m trying to figure out a workflow to UV unwrap a model in InstaMat using the element graph.
I have managed to unwrap my model and I can see a preview image of that map.
How do I “apply” that UV to my model?
The seems to be very little documentation using the nodes, or am I missing where to look?

Thanks!

Hello @gtr,

Thank you for your post. We are still working on extending our documentation with additional articles. Here is an article detailing how to unwrap models in InstaMAT using an Element Graph.

Once you have used the Mesh UV Unwrap node, you can save the unwrapped mesh to disk either using the Export Viewport Scene button in the viewport’s toolbar, or by creating a graph output. Both of these options are explained in the article.

Please feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions!

Thanks!

Excellent! Thanks for the link!

You’re welcome! Happy UV unwrapping!

Hi there, this tutorial appears to be out of date, there’s no ‘Output’ node in the element graph, is there an updated version I can check out? thanks!

Hello @GehrigBOTJ and welcome to our community!

You can create the output by simply dragging a connection from the “Mesh UV Unwrap” node’s output and choosing “Expose ‘Output’ as graph output” at the top under “Action”. You can also call it whatever you like by, for example, typing in “Mesh” and choosing “Expose ‘Mesh’ as graph output”.

ahhhh gotcha, thanks! is there a way to then apply that new UV to an fbx inside of the material layer paint mode? Love the software, but the learning curve is incredibly steep, would be awesome to have some tutorials focused on every day use cases vs some of the more niche topics on your youtube channel, just a thought! thanks again!

Hey @GehrigBOTJ, thank you for the kind words! Currently you’d need to export the UV unwrapped mesh and import it into your project with the new UV’s.

More tutorials will be coming soon on our Youtube channel!
